Explanation
This estimate rests on a simple principle: filament is extruded continuously throughout the print path, so the total length of filament consumed is directly proportional to the total distance traveled by the nozzle. Dividing this length by the print speed thus gives an estimate of the total time, a method mathematically equivalent to the reference volumetric approach (part volume ÷ (filament cross-section × speed)) used by specialized 3D printing sites, since the printed volume corresponds exactly to the filament's cross-section multiplied by its length. This estimate nonetheless remains SIMPLIFIED: real slicer software calculates a more precise time by accounting for non-printing nozzle travel (without extrusion, between two areas to print), speed changes by layer (the first layers and outlines are often printed more slowly than the interior infill), and the part's exact geometry. Because this simplified estimate assumes a constant speed and continuous extrusion throughout the print, whereas real slicer software accounts for non-printing travel between areas to print (without extrusion, so not consuming filament but taking time), different speeds by layer, and automatic slowdown on small details. This calculator gives a useful order of magnitude, not a precise prediction.
How do I find the filament length needed for my part?

Is print speed really constant throughout a print?
