Daily Coffee Cost Calculator

The annual cost of coffee is calculated with (price of a coffee × number of coffees per day) × 365. Two coffees a day at €1.80 add up to €3.60 per day, or about €1,314 per year.
Explanation
A small daily expense seems negligible on its own, but adding it up over a year reveals an amount that's often underestimated — the same principle behind our recurring monthly subscriptions calculator, for a different kind of recurring cost. This calculator applies a direct multiplication: the unit price of coffee multiplied by the number of coffees consumed per day, then by 30 for a monthly estimate and by 365 for an annual one. The default price (€1.80) corresponds to an espresso at the counter of a bar or café in France, a range that generally runs from €1.50 in rural areas to over €2 in Paris or a major city; a takeaway coffee from a specialty chain typically costs noticeably more and should be adjusted manually in the price field. To convert any other recurring expense (not just coffee) between a daily, monthly, and annual basis, our daily, monthly, and annual cost calculator covers the general case.
Example: 2 coffees a day at €1.80
Inputs
Price of a coffee: €1.80. Number of coffees per day: 2.
Calculation
Daily cost = €1.80 × 2 = €3.60. Monthly cost = €3.60 × 30 = €108. Annual cost = €3.60 × 365 = €1,314.
Result
This coffee habit costs about €1,314 per year.
Frequently asked questions
Why multiply by 30 and 365, rather than the exact number of days in the month or year?
This calculator uses a simplified convention of 30 days per month and 365 days per year (ignoring leap years), consistent with our tobacco cost calculator. This is a sufficient approximation for estimating a budgetary order of magnitude; the gap with an exact count stays marginal (less than 1 day out of 365, or less than 2 days per month depending on the month).
Does the default price of €1.80 correspond to a takeaway coffee from a major chain?
No: €1.80 corresponds to a classic espresso at the counter of a traditional bar or café in France. A takeaway coffee from a specialty chain (cappuccino, latte, etc.) generally costs much more, often between €3 and €5 or more — adjust the price field accordingly for that type of consumption.
Does this calculation include coffee made at home?
This calculator assumes coffee bought outside the home (bar, café, vending machine). Coffee made at home (pods, ground coffee, instant) is generally much cheaper per cup; in that case, simply adjust the unit price to the actual cost of a homemade cup to get a comparable estimate.
