Parking Cost Calculator

Parking cost is calculated with hourly rate × duration, capped at the parking lot's maximum daily rate. For €2/h over 3 hours with a €15 cap, the cost is €6.
Explanation
Most paid parking lots charge an hourly rate (often tiered/declining, simplified here into an average rate) up to a daily cap beyond which the price stops increasing, no matter how much longer the car stays parked: this cap protects drivers from a disproportionate cost for extended parking. This calculator applies that logic directly: the raw cost (hourly rate multiplied by duration) is compared with the daily cap shown at the parking lot's entrance, and whichever of the two amounts is smaller is what actually applies. For a short stay, the hourly rate generally determines the final cost; for a long stay (a full workday, a long trip), it's often the daily cap that takes over and sets the amount due, regardless of the number of hours actually spent. This parking cost adds to the cost of the trip itself: see our fuel trip cost calculator to estimate the full cost of a car trip, fuel and parking included.
Example: 3 hours of parking at €2/h
Inputs
Hourly rate: €2/h. Duration: 3 h. Daily cap: €15.
Calculation
Raw cost = 2 × 3 = €6. Since €6 is below the €15 cap, the final cost is €6.
Result
This 3-hour parking stay costs €6.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I stay longer than what reaches the cap?
Beyond the daily cap, the parking cost stops rising no matter how much time remains in the same day: that's precisely the cap's purpose, protecting against a disproportionate cost for a very long stay. This calculator reflects that rule by always taking the smaller of the two amounts (hourly rate × duration, or the cap).
Does this calculator account for tiered hourly rates?
No, it uses a constant average hourly rate rather than modeling declining tiers (often more expensive for the first hour, cheaper afterward), which vary too much from one parking lot to another to generalize. For a more precise result, use the real average hourly rate shown or calculated from that specific parking lot's rate table.
What if my parking lot doesn't apply any daily cap?
In that case, enter a very high daily cap (for example €9999), so it's never reached and the real cost stays determined solely by the hourly rate multiplied by duration, never artificially limited.
