Countdown Calculator

The number of days remaining until a date is calculated by subtracting today's date from the target date. A date set 10 days from today thus shows 10 days remaining, or 1 full week.
Explanation
This calculator shows the number of days remaining until a specific date — an event, a birthday, a work or administrative deadline — counted from today's date, along with the number of full weeks that represents. If the entered date has already passed, the result becomes negative rather than producing an error: a result of "−5 days," for example, means the event took place 5 days ago. This calculator uses the same engine as our date difference calculator, but with only one date to enter: today's date automatically serves as the starting point, matching the most common use case ("how many days until...?") without having to re-enter today's date every time — the reverse counting problem from our age calculator, which counts complete years already lived rather than days remaining.
Example: an event planned in 10 days
Inputs
Event date: 10 days from today.
Calculation
Days remaining = event date − today's date = 10 days, or 1 full week.
Result
10 days (1 full week) remain until this event.
Frequently asked questions
What does a negative result mean?
A negative result means the entered date has already passed: for example, −14 days means the event took place 14 days ago. This isn't an error, simply a way to keep showing a usable result after the event's date rather than blocking the calculation.
Does this calculator account for the current time of day in the count?
The calculation compares today's date to the target date without accounting for the exact time: if the two dates are identical, the result is 0 days remaining, not 1. The day of the event itself therefore corresponds to 0 days remaining, not 1 day before.
Can I calculate the number of days between two arbitrary dates, not just up to today?
This calculator always uses today's date as the starting point. To calculate a gap between two arbitrary dates (neither of which is today), use our date difference calculator instead, which accepts two freely entered dates.
