Explanation
Omega-6 and omega-3 are two families of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids (the body cannot synthesize them itself), but they exert partly opposite biological effects, notably on inflammatory processes: omega-6 tends to promote pro-inflammatory mediators, while omega-3 promotes anti-inflammatory mediators. Not necessarily drastically: omega-6 remains an essential fatty acid with its own benefits, and the generally preferred approach is to increase omega-3 intake instead (fatty fish such as mackerel, sardine, or salmon, rapeseed or flaxseed oil, walnuts) rather than eliminating omega-6 sources from the diet, which otherwise remain necessary in sufficient quantity.
